Alex is a highly experienced social researcher, behaviour change specialist and facilitator, combining a strong academic background, excellent qualitative and quantitative social research skills and specific expertise in behaviour change approaches. He has over 15 years of experience working in sustainability, research and consultancy across the public, private and third sectors and founded Hilliam Research and Analysis in November 2016.
He has experience of a range of behaviour change techniques and is a leading expert in the application of the Scottish Government’s ISM (Individual, Social and Material) behaviour change tool. He works with a wide range of organisations across the sustainability and low carbon sector including the Scottish Government, NHS Boards, NGOs, professional bodies and community groups.
His work focuses on three key areas: behaviour change advice and consultancy support; evaluation of behaviour change programmes, and; facilitation, engagement and consultation services.
He is a member of the Edinburgh Climate Commission, which aims to accelerate action and impact on climate change in the city, and provides independent, expert and authoritative advice to enable and support the best choices being made for Edinburgh.
Alex is currently supporting the Zero Waste Scotland Decoupling Advisory Group. and was also a member of the Low Carbon Infrastructure Task Force and was co-opted onto the Scottish Fuel Poverty Strategic Working Group.
